Everyone has passed through some kind of experiences that is considered different and remarkable for him. For me, coming to Webster University and study in ESL program was very amusing and rewarding experience. I have improved a lot in English writing since I started and refreshed my mind in grammar.

            I didn’t know much about essays, maybe just few details like the presence of the introduction and the conclusion but didn’t exactly know what they should include or essay’s structure and nature. But now, I really knew a lot and understood even the small details about the structure of the essay.

            In addition, I now have a great understanding for grammar and I have learned the future progressive. In general grammar class was an easy and light class.

            My advice for new student is to study hard and practice all the time and avoid plagiarism form the internet, colleague or any other resource. Once student do the work by himself he will get the intended benefit out of it and learn more

Young People

A lot of people like independent life and others don’t. Those who like independence, get a job in an early age, rent an apartment and pay all the bills. On the other hand, some people like their life with their families. Many people allow their children to live their own lives. It means, in a certain age, they leave the house and depend on themselves. However, other people force their children to take the responsibility for themselves. And I think, young people who live at their families’ home have several advantages like saving money, security, and the fact that they don’t have to cook.

            For me, saving money is on top of the list for many reasons. When a person lives with his family, he has the option wither to work and study in the same time or not. If he does, he would be capable to do more for his future without worrying about paying bills, buying food or any other expenses. Even if he doesn’t work, he would be able to concentrate on his education without worries.

            As a girl’s prospective, it is safer to be with your family. It’s dangerous to live alone and away from your family. The closer to your family, the safer it is for you. When you are surrounded by your family, they will protect you and keep you safe.

            Not to cook is a real good benefit for a lot of people. It’s really a good thing when you come home and find the food ready. What you really need after a long day at university is to eat and take a nap. No need to worry about washing dishes, buying food, and it’s also healthy.

            It’s really something good when you feel you are secured. Everything is great, you have your own money, you are safe and your food is ready all the time. But the most important thing is, you have your family around you. They feel you and you feel them.

Thanksgiving Day

     Thanksgiving stated since harvest celebration of the pilgrims and the Native Americans that took place in 1621. Although they did have a three-day feast in celebration of a good harvest. The first thanksgiving was not holiday, simply a gathering. This gathering was more like festival than holiday. That day wasn’t repeated for years till June 20^th of the year 1676 when the governing council of Charlestown, Massachusetts, held a meeting to discuss how to express their appreciation for the establishment of their community in security. A man called Edward Rawson was voted to proclaim June 29 as the day of thanksgiving. In 1978, George Washington proclaimed the national day of thanksgiving. After that, Sara Josepha Hale who was a magazine editor, after writing editorials for 40 years made her dream come true when President Lincoln proclaimed the last Thursday of November to be the Thanksgiving Day in 1863.

            Thanksgiving Day became one of the official holidays. In that day, each family gathers around a fancy table which has the turkey and mashed potatoes as the main dishes in addition to other treats. Before they enjoy their meal, they start with a prayer to express their appreciation to the God for the health and all of his blessings and graces. 

Luxury Loans

            People used to find getting loans a hard issue. In the past, they used to seek loans when things are tough and to make their life easier in terms of securing living essentials. However, nowadays; loans are being easier to get for most of the people. Banks found it one of their best ways to make more money and people are getting involved more and more and found it shorter path to make business or even for luxury.

            Is it wrong to get a loan when it is not really necessary?  This question is always under discussion in different societies. Some people are justified because of their circumstances and some get loans to have newer car, to go for expensive vacation, to move to better neighborhood, to get high quality furniture or many other luxury purposes. Some think this is wrong and that people shouldn’t get involved in loans unless they really have to. Others think that it is OK and that all people have the right for better living, good vacations or better cars.

            In my point of view, I think loans should be taken only for really serious cases such as medical treatments, getting a car when you don’t have it, buying a house or similar cases. Sometimes life is tough but loans are not the answer as they would make your life even harder. But it is still only my point of view and this issue will continue under discussion ages to come. In addition, the word living essentials might be flexible and is always left to everyone to decide what it means to him.   

My staycation.

          It was a staycation because I didn’t go to any place out of ST. Louis but, my husband came from Saudi Arabia. It was the first time; I didn’t see him for three months. I was very enthusiastic, and very excited to show him ST. Louis. We went to many restaurants; one of them was IHOP which is a very nice one for the breakfast. It has many kinds of waffles and many types of pancakes.

            Actually I wasn’t in the mood to enjoy my staycation because of the dozen of homework I have. Whenever I spent one day out without doing any homework it was torturing me. I realized later that there are more things than the homework to worry about. Anyone would wonder what that would be.

            The reason was my brother, I woke up in Thursday the 20^th and found many missed calls from my family with one message said your brother had an accident and he is in a comma. I collapsed for many days. He is young just twenty four years old. After that, we knew he suffered an internal bleeding in his head, lung and his tommy. Also, he has many broken bones in his slat and in his hip.

            The accident happened while he was at work. As I know, his company sells cars in installments. When the customer doesn’t pay for a certain period, they just take his car without a notice by sending one of their employees with a key provided by them. This employee was my brother this time. However, when he took one of those cars the customer saw him and chased him until he hit him from the back in purpose. His car rolled over and he wasn’t buckled up.

            My brother’s situation is currently stable. He woke up from the comma. The internal bleeding in the head stopped, they pulled the on in the lung and they are sucking out the one in his tommy. But they drugged him and this case will continue the same for two weeks to  help him not to feel the pain.

            No one knows his destiny or what he will face. I thank my God for his blessing, my family is safe, my parent is in good health and my brother still alive.

My hero.

The hero is not the person how takes down three men in the same time, not with his muscles. For me, the hero is a person who does something without expecting anything in return to save lives and help others even for a cat. Maybe he does something completely foolish and maybe something could cost him his life, but without thinking what is the right thing or what could be the consequences. He just responds bravely to prevent disasters.

 One day before many years, the weather was rainy and there was flood, it wasn’t very heavy. My father in that day decided to go on a picnic. We were very happy playing together and having fun. My father warned us from a kind of mud which drags people until the person disappears sinking inside. While we were having fun and enjoy our time, we heard screams grabbed our attention. We were surprised and wondered what that screaming was about. It was coming from a frightened mother because her son was sinking in that dangerous mud. His father was in shock and stood still staring to his own child and not doing anything to save him. When my father noticed the situation he directly jumped very fast into that mud to rescue that poor child. We were very scared and didn’t think that he is going to make it. However, my father moved with very light and fast steps to avoid getting his feet sucked inside the mud just touching as if he was flying. He pulled the child and took him to the safe area. Everybody was surprise with his bravery and fast reaction.

Many thanks were delivered to my hero from the other family for being a reason to give the child another chance and new birthday.
 But I kept asking myself, what if he couldn’t make it? What would happen to us? And many other questions occurred to my mind later.

                     As I mentioned before, to be a hero you should have a mix of courage, humanity and a little of foolishness. My father was and still my hero.

Cheesecake factory restaurant

I heard about this restaurant before I came to U.S from my sister. She wanted to invite me there but I was too busy. Then I heard about it from Tamara. I felt enthusiastic to go there. Some of the student suggested that we go together as students with our teacher. I loved the idea because I like to be with my class meats and the most important reason that I really like Tamara and I love to have chatting with her.

The awaited day is coming it was Friday. It was interesting day Saimi and I want with Nidah’s car. The weather was fabulous. The conversation with them was smooth and interesting.

We arrived to the restaurant and actually, I was really surprised. It was very magnificent unlike my imagination. What I built in my hide is a very simple restaurant as the fast food restaurants. Then we had a big table and we stared to give the waitress our orders. After a while the waitress brought the drinks.  As Saudi girls Nida and I started to chat with each other without stopping more over we hadn’t get enough chatting with each other also with all the student and Tamara. What had cut out our chatting was the food. My order was chicken salad sandwich it was really big and yummy. After the main meal, the desserts were served. And min was Toxedo chocolate cheesecake. I never imagine cheesecake with this sweetness.  

  In brief the restaurant was ambiance. What make it more unforgettable for me are the photos we took.        

My hero.

Royal family

          There are different systems of ruling a country and mainly two, monarchy system and presidential system. In my country it is monarchy system and in this system one family is the ruler. They are called the royal family and they all under one ruler called the king. In this system the second person is either the son of the king or his brother and called the crown. The crown is always a brother in my country.

            There are many questions usually comes to your mind when you think about royalty and royal family like their life style, how many they are, how rich and more. In my country, any member of the royal family is born with a golden spoon in his mouth. They all have salaries for being part of the family some are by blood and some are called royal because they helped with uniting the country but all have salaries forever and annually increasing. This salary differs based on how close a member is to the king and wither he is relative by blood or just shared the wars with them. They are huge in number and all are rich. Most of the royal members own palaces in many other countries and spend millions of dollars when they travel because they have too many people following and serving them.

            Talking about such a thing will go on and on to describe their life style, systems and other information. Anyways, being a part of royal family is a privilege and everybody wishes to be part of them.  

My favorite dish.

 In the Stone Age, people was satisfied with just little food that make their tummy not really empty, it was something just to live. In our age, there are various kinds of food or we can say food cultures. It became a human nature, to always think about what we are going to eat and what we already ate. So, food became something make us happy to talk about, ask or just smell, It became something to enjoy.

            I would like to start with one type of food that I like and makes me very relaxed. It’s the Italian food especially the macaroni with vegetable and chicken. It is not just a normal dish; it is considered as a main dish and really yummy when mixed with red and white sauce. We can choose any kind of vegetable to be added with it. It is healthy because of the starches, chicken and vegetables it has all combined together.

            In fact, I was excited to cook macaroni to my family for the first time, I enjoyed it. When I did, they said that it was more delicious than the restaurant’s. It is easy to make, just boil different shapes of macaroni and vegetable, fry small pieces of chicken and after everything is done, prepare the red sauce with tomato paste and the white sauce which is just liquid cheese with mayonnaise and cream then you can mix them together. After that, mix everything together and leave it for few minutes.

             We all have favorite type of food and easily can have it. So, we should always be thankful to our god for his blessing on what we have or will have and wither it is a lot or few.

Teaching methodology.

Teaching methods is the key for countries to success. If the education has a solid base, the generation will grow up with the country.  For example, I’m here in a foreign country to study, improve myself and adopt different and new thoughts to my country. This thing will not be only reflected on me but on my family too.
Because of the high qualifications I dreamed of for my kids, I chose a privet school in my country. In there, my son spent the kindergarten and the first grad crying each day. It was very difficult on me and him but I thought maybe the reason was that he is very attached to me, so it was hard on him not to see me during the day. Also, he was whining all the day because of the dozen homeworks he gets, too many memorizing he is supposed to do and heavy back bag he carries every day. One time, his teacher hit him on his back because he was writing on his desk, so it was a problem to go to school on the next day.  This kind of behaviors can destruct the relation between the student and the teacher.
When we came here I was concerned about what my son is going to do, is he going to cry a lot? Also, different language would be huge obstacle for him. However, he surprised me with the way he adapted. He liked the school so much and kept saying that the school is beautiful and we play a lot. This is because of the different teaching method he receives here.  He is receiving reasonable number of books and homeworks. School is not depending on memorization but practice. In addition, teachers are being very careful in the way they deal with kids. Also, giving children with other languages daily lessons to help them was really helpful. One funny thing my son mentioned is that he likes girls more than boys and says that they are very cute and not aggressive.
I think this is the right method to make your kids like the school and be a successful and productive person in the future and I hope I can change something back in my country to improve our teaching method.

Fist impression

Hi this is Hajer I’m starting new thing here I hope you enjoy it with me.
When most of people think about United States of America they would say it is my dream to go there. It was my dream too. I thought about it many years and it took me one day to decide and few months to come her.
When I arrived to Washington DC I thought, oh my god the people are nice and smiling all the time and the weather is perfect. To me, it was the heaven hopefully it’s the same in St. Louis. However, I didn’t have the time to explore Washington DC as I spent only one day there. There is a lot much in my mind about it from the movies. For example, famous buildings like the white house, the white trees in winter, its organized roads and the multi cultures it has. On the other hand, when I finally got to Missouri S. Louise, It was a shock. The weather is very bad that I thought I can’t live here. It’s a dangerous city, has a bad, hot and humid weather that I don’t like. It was like if the sun light focused on me through a lens. Also, colors of the trees were affected by the heat. In addition, it has a high crime rate and I faced many situations when I was using the metro link because I didn’t have a car. When I was waiting at some stations, some people was looking at me and coming at me and I was really scared.
I’m now here for two months and by the time, I liked it and I found the people very friendly. The weather is bad but not that bad and I think with Webster University I’m going to love this city more and more and start enjoying it.
